Milk Alternatives Help Reduce Carbon Footprint

According to a recent article in Sierra magazine, the Food and Agricultural Organization estimates the dairy industry contributes 4% of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions. Consumers have been increasingly seeking out milk substitutions, but in recent years popular milk alternatives such as soy and almond have come under increased scrutiny because of the way those products are grown and harvested.

The good news is that there are some exciting new milk replacements. Sierra sampled seven milk varieties including: flax, macademia, pea, coconut, cashew, hemp and oat. The results of their testing can be found here
